Typically, how much do utilities cost per month in a Los Angeles apartment?

May 29th, 2010 by admin 2 comments »
Amber asked:

I am moving from Chicago to the LA area and I have always only rented houses (so obviously utilities should be MUCH more expensive in a large house rather then an apartment)–

I have been finding a lot of apartments that INCLUDE utilities– but if they don’t cost that much then I can look for places that don’t include utilities for the same price..

cheaper Chicago with no job, or expensive New York City with a medium income job? Lesser of 2 evils?

Well I’m currently here in Manhattan from Chicago on a trip staying with a friend. I’m 19, and I haven’t been able to find anything in terms of work at all in Chicago for more than a year, even with such menial jobs like McDonalds, Target, fast food, retial, etc. None, 0 zilch, not a single interview, not even a call back. I worked in a warehouse for a bit just barely scraping by to support myself with 60 bucks a day under the table in Chicago, but I’ve lost that job and I cannot find another job to save my life (literally). Well, since I’ve been here in New York I’ve gotten a few interviews (which is huge for me), and one in Brooklyn even invited me back tomorrow for a second interview, where I find out if I get the job. I’m still in shock that I actually got first interviews for jobs, never mind a second one. So I’m thinkin, if this job hires me, I might end up missin my plane back to Chicago, and just work and crash at my friends place until I can save up enough for some crap hole in the Bronx or somethin. The job I think would end up paying around 500 a week, around 2000 a month, not including income tax. So the question is, should I stay in expensive NYC if i get this job and attempt to get by? At least it’s something. Or should I go back to Chicago and start from scratch and keep praying for an interview or a job of some sort , and risk becoming homeless? Chicago is cheaper and more affordable, but my lease for my apartment ends in October, so it’s crunch time, and something has to happen. And Chicago seems to be moving at 0 miles per hour. But my friend in NYC will probably not let me live with him forever if I get this job, so I would have to get my own place eventually, and I would not be able to afford splitting his rent with him either as an option. But anyways, with that income in NYC, is supporting myself somehow possible? What should I do? There are obviously people in NYC who would be consider poor, but yet somehow they seem to get by, but I have no idea how. So what seems like a better option? I’m so confused about this, and my mind is racing at a million miles per second. Thanks alot.

The apartment is in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Brand new building, $1,100/mo. My parents would add it to their auto/home policy.

What kind of dog should I get?

I have a 3BR apartment in downtown Chicago. I’ve had cats before but am finally able to get a dog (it would just be me, my dad, and the dog). I like small(er) dogs, generally easy maintenance. Low-key lifestyle (we don’t go hiking or running, etc). I’ve looked at Pugs and King Charles Cavaliers, but still searching. I’d like a dog that would be okay to be home for a few hours while I’m at work. Any suggestions??

When visitors to the United States.?

phoenix asked:

Please read the following text .which answers are correct?
When visitors to the United States leave the crowded cities of the East Coast or Midwest they are likely to comment on the use of space .Boston, New York, Philadelphia and even the central part of Chicago may look similar to great cities anywhere I the world. However urban areas in other parts of the country and especially those in the “wide West” look different. Take Denver or Los Angeles for example. Although statistics show that many people there live in apartments those buildings are small compared to the multi-storied apartment blocks of Moscow, Cairo and Beijing. The mid-size city of Tucson. Arizona (population 700000)which developed in a board desert valley with several small streams to feed it covers an area larger than all of Chicago (population 7million).in Tucson most people live in individual houses. They drive their cars (or pickup trucks) to work and shop in large shopping malls with huge parking lots. perhaps it’s the farmer or cowboy influence ,each family has its own piece of land.
1.visitors to the United States often comment on the usage of space in……………
a) the central part of Chicago b)large apartment building c)urban areas of the west
2.According to the article apartment buildings in Moscow , Cairo and Beijing are often …….than those in Denver and Los Angeles.
a) taller b)more expensive c) more beautiful
3. The average person in Tucson lives ……….
a) in a house b) near his /her job c) on a farm
4. The article implies that in building cities today Americans are influenced by……….
a) cities on the East Coast b) their farming tradition c) the need for more apartments
